Metadata: 2017, EGS, Lynn and Inner Dowsing, Post Construction Geophysical Survey
Abstract:
EGS (International) Limited (EGSi) were contracted by Siemens Gamesa Renewable Energy Ltd to undertake the 2017 post-construction geophysical survey of the L and ID OWF turbine locations, array cable and export cable routes. The main objective of the survey was to fulfil the L and ID Operations and Maintenance requirement by monitoring bedform morphology and scour around the turbines.

| Lineage | Lineage includes the background information, history of the sources of data, data quality statements and methods. | Survey acquisition was carried out using the EGS Pioneer, which is permanently mobilised with a suite of hydrographic and geophysical equipment. The hull-mounted Kongsberg EM2040D Multibeam Echo Sounder (MBES), the Applanix POS MV 320 and the C&C Technologies C-Nav 3050 were calibrated and verified in accordance to the manufacturers’ guidelines in February/March 2017. A Sonardyne Scout Plus USBL system, mounted through the port moon tube, was mobilised to the vessel on 23rd June 2017. USBL calibrations and verifications were conducted on 24th June 2017. An Edgetech 42000 side scan sonar (SSS) and a Klein 3000 SSS were mobilised to the vessel whilst the vessel was alongside Grimsby Fish Docks, prior to commencing survey operations at the L&ID OWF. Following the completion of the alongside mobilisation, the vessel sailed to commence at-sea SSS position verification. On arrival at the L&ID OWF the Edgetech SSS system failed to communicate. The secondary SSS, Klein 3000, was connected and also failed to communicate. As both systems were operational whilst alongside Grimsby, problem solving commenced and identified the issue to be associated with the winch and hard tow termination. The issue was resolved and operations commenced at 15:52 on 7th September 2017. Survey data acquisition was completed on 10th September 2017 just as the sea state deteriorated to an unworkable condition The vessel subsequently transited to Grimsby and data QC was carried out alongside to ensure full data coverage. The data QC was completed at 10:00 on 12th September 2017 when the vessel was demobilised from the contract. |
