Metadata: 2008, Emu Ltd, Kentish Flats Offshore Windfarm Post-Construction Swath Survey
Abstract:
In accordance with the FEPA licence, there is a requirement to undertake pre-construction and postconstruction surveys of a selection of turbine locations and the associated cable corridors to determine rates of scour after construction. Emu Limited was commissioned by Kentish Flats Ltd. to carry out a series of hydrographic surveys spaced at 6 monthly intervals both before and after construction to achieve this requirement. This report represents the data from the seventh such survey, the sixth since construction of the turbine foundations. The fieldwork was performed between on 2nd and 5th November 2007 by our subcontractor Port of London Authority (PLA) using the survey vessel Verifier. Depth data were acquired by a multibeam system fully integrated with motion sensor and navigation software. In general the seabed levels, as in the five previous post-construction surveys, do not show any significant change beyond the areas close to the turbine bases. The scour at the turbine bases ranges from 1.5m to 1.9m indicating little or no change from the previous survey in March 2007. Backfill continues slowly at each of the depressions caused by the jack-up platforms used during construction. This ranges from 0.1m to 0.2m in the last 6 months. A new set of four spudcan depressions has appeared to the south east of turbine E2. These show between 0.2m and 0.3m increase in depth. No depth changes have been noted along the cable corridors.
