Metadata: 2011-2012, Partrac, Zone 1 - Moray Firth, Wave Buoy Data (December 2011 to July 2012)
Abstract:
Partrac Ltd was contracted by MORL to deploy a wave buoy at a site in the Moray Firth. The objective of this study was to provide wave data that will inform the developer's physical processes modelling and engineering design in relation to a proposed offshore wind farm development. Moray Offshore Renewables Limited (MORL) collected metocean data within the development area between 14/12/11 to 16/07/12. The dataset is presented in excel format. The raw data (sheet 2) contains: Average Wave Height (Havg), Max Wave Height (Hmax), Significant Wave Height (Hsig), in addition to data on wave period and direction. Significant Wave Height (Hsig) is the most important figure to inform design of offshore structures. This number represents the the mean wave height (trough to crest) of the highest third of the waves, or as four times the standard deviation of the surface elevation. Other sheets include quality checking information, this follows CEFAS procedures. The QA/QC procedures are used to automatically process the wave data from Datawell Directional Waverider buoys. The aim of the procedures is to produce good valid data that has passed through a series of algorithms that are easily understood and well documented. The algorithms may not remove all unwanted data but all the data with a relatively light touch in terms of QC.
