Metadata: 2009, Anatec UK Ltd, Westermost Rough Offshore Wind Farm, Navigation Risk Assessment
Abstract:
Anatec UK Ltd has performed a shipping and navigation risk assessment of the Westermost Rough Offshore Wind Farm. The report presents information on the proposed development relative to baseline navigational activity and features for the area. Following this, an assessment of the impact of the proposed development on navigation is presented. The assessment considers the impact of the surface structures associated with the operational phase of the wind farm on commercial shipping, dredging, fishing and recreational sailing. Consideration is also given to the impacts of structures on radar, impacts of subsea cables, impacts associated with construction and decommissioning phases and finally the cumulative impacts with nearby developments. Consultation on key navigational issues has been carried out with key stakeholders, the main consultation meetings held on the Westermost Rough project are summarised. Baseline information relating to ports, navigational aids, sailing directions, wrecks, oil and gas infrastructure, exercise areas and metcoean data is provided. A summary of the maritime traffic carried out previously by Anatec is included in the risk assessment. Finally the report summarise the risk mitigation measures which have been proposed for the Westermost Rough Offshore Wind Farm. Whilst some of the measures addressed here have been adopted by the project, other measures are proposed and will be under review by the project team with the relevant stakeholders. Future monitoring proposals relating to navigational issues are also presented in the report. Conclusions are provided on all of the issues raised and discussed in the report.
