Metadata: 2010, EMU, Zone 7 - Navitus Bay, Geophysical Survey to support Zone Assessment
Abstract:
Emu Limited was commissioned by Eneco Offshore Wind to undertake an offshore geophysical survey of Zone 7 (West Isle of Wight) and 4 possible export Cable Routes. The main objective of the survey was to determine which areas of Zone 7 would be best suited to the development of offshore wind farms by improving the geological model provided by Eneco and better understanding ground conditions in the region. Zone 7 is located approximately 20 km south of Bournemouth and 13 km south-west of the Isle of Wight, in the English Channel. The geophysical survey incorporated: - High resolution multibeam echosounder (MBES) - High resolution sidescan sonar - Magnetometer - Seismic profiling systems - Seabed grab sampling Two vessels were used to complete the geophysical survey. The Cable Route survey was carried out between the 4th June 2010 and the 15th June 2010 on the RV Discovery . The mainsite survey was carried out between the 14th June and 14th July 2010 on the MV Victor Hensen. Following the conduction of the ground truthing survey on the mainsite and cable corridors an additional 6 geophysical survey lines, incorporating proposed borehole location 5 and the existing BGS borehole, were also surveyed.
