Metadata: 2010 -2011, SMRU Ltd., European Offshore Wind Deployment Centre, Bird and Marine Mammal Surveys
Abstract:
Aberdeen Offshore Wind Farm Limited (AOWFL) has applied for consent to Marine Scotland for the European Offshore Wind Deployment Centre (EOWDC) and as part of that process have been collecting and processing the required ecological data. Previously 15 months of boat-based surveys for marine mammals and seabirds had been carried out by Hull University and RPS during 2007-2008. SMRU Ltd were contracted to conduct a further 12 months of surveys which started in August 2010. This report presents data on the distribution of sightings and acoustic detections of marine mammals and sightings of seabirds from the 12 surveys which took place between August 2010 and August 2011.

| Lineage | Lineage includes the background information, history of the sources of data, data quality statements and methods. | The aim of the Year 2 project was to conduct monthly boat surveys of three strata (north, south and offshore, Figure 1) to record marine mammal and seabird sightings data as well as simultaneously collecting cetacean acoustic data. The north survey area overlapped with the areas surveyed previously during Year 1 data collection (Figure 2). Surveys commenced in August 2010, but due to adverse weather conditions and timing of other activity within the site (e.g. a geophysical survey), a survey in every month was not possible. |
