Metadata: 2012, EMU, Wave Hub Test Centre, Post-construction Benthic Ecology Monitoring Survey
Abstract:
EMU Limited (EMU) were commissioned by the South West Regional Development Agency (SWRDA), under management by Halcrow Group Ltd., to supervise a baseline benthic ecology survey at the Wave Hub deployment site and associated sub-sea export cable. The survey was undertaken to meet Wave Hub’s preconstruction obligations under the Food & Environmental Protection Act (FEPA) (1985), to acquire information as part of a wider survey campaign, and to make suggestions to establish a programme of environmental monitoring. An interim survey report was presented in June 2010 outlining field data acquisition methods used during the Wave Hub survey together with preliminary field observations derived from grab sampling and seabed video. It was recommended that a post construction survey be undertaken at a 1 year interval, at a similar time of year to that of the previous survey, undertaken in 2010. This should have resulted in a survey being undertaken between June and August 2011 but due to a lack of suitable weather windows, the survey was finally undertaken in November 2011. However the survey was undertaken before any major changes in sea temperature had occurred and as such, no particular effects of the survey delay on data acquisition or quality of data was noted.
