Metadata: 2008, DONG Energy, Westermost Rough Offshore Wind Farm, Little Gull Survey Data report
Abstract:
This note summarises information on the Little Gull at the site and in the vicinity of Westermost Rough offshore windfarm, following concerns raised by Natural England and RSPB on the abundance and behaviour of Little Gull in relation to the planned offshore wind farms in the northern part of the Greater Wash offshore wind farm strategic area. In particular both organisations have requested further information on flight height and observations. The data presented in this report are primarily based on the marine boat and aerial bird survey results collected at Westermost Rough Offshore Windfarm between August 2004 and July 2006 conducted by the Institute of Estuarine and Coastal Studies (IECS). The two surveys indicated a near absence of Little Gull aside from the late summer and autumn period, consistent with a post-breeding passage movement. The report concluded flight height registered during boat surveys varied between 0-25 m above sea level with around 60% of the birds sitting on the water and no Little Gull were observed at flight heights above 25m.
