Metadata: 2022-2025, RSPB, Marine Characterisation Research Project, Colony counts (WP6)
Abstract:
This data series was collected for the Marine Characterisation project (MCRP) which forms part of the Morlais tidal energy project, managed by Menter Môn and funded by the European Regional Development Fund and The Crown Estate. These data focus on Guillemot and Razorbill which hunt fish by diving. We estimate current colony size and levels of breeding productivity, along with describing historical patterns of abundance change at South Stack and nearby colonies. The inshore waters around South Stack breeding seabird colony are the site of a tidal stream power development. Impacts on biodiversity are possible and baseline monitoring has taken place against which to compare data in the future. Access to the MCRP data is strictly subject to the MCRP Data Terms of Use. Please ensure that you read and understand the Terms of Use prior to using any of the data as you will be bound to comply with the same. The MCRP Terms of Use are the prevailing Terms of Use and supersede that of Marine Data Exchange Terms of Use in relation to MCRP data.

| Title | The title is used to provide a brief and precise description of the dataset such as 'Date', 'Originating organisation/programme', 'Location' and 'Type of survey'. All acronyms and abbreviations should be reproduced in full. | 2022-2025, RSPB, Marine Characterisation Research Project, Colony counts (WP6) |
| Alternative title | The purpose of alternative title is to record any additional names by which the dataset may be known. | Colony counts (WP6) |
| File Identifier | The File Identifier is a code, preferably a GUID, that is globally unique and remains with the same metadata record even if the record is edited or transferred between portals or tools. | b236114f-0dbd-4163-a2a5-9e8d29d854f9 |
| Resource Identifier | This is the code assigned by the data owner. | TCE-3928 |
| Resource type | The resource type will likely be a dataset but could also be a series (collection of datasets with a common specification) or a service. | series |
| Start date | This describes the date the resource starts. This may only be the year if month and day are not known | 2022-03-16 |
| End date | This describes the date the resource ends. This may only be the year if month and day are not known | 2025-07-29 |
| Frequency of updates | This describes the frequency with which the resource is modified or updated i.e. a monitoring programme that samples once per year has a frequency that is described as 'annually'. | notPlanned |

| Lineage | Lineage includes the background information, history of the sources of data, data quality statements and methods. | In addition to standard June colony counts, counts of individuals in the same sectors were also carried out bimonthly from 01 April until 15 July each year from the same viewpoints and during suitable weather. This period covers all breeding activity and provide information on attendance during successive breeding stages. Monthly counts of individuals from the same viewpoints of colony sectors also took place to inform attendance outside the breeding season (August-March). Productivity estimates were based on the interpretation of repeated photographic surveys of selected ledges and nests across multiple colony sectors. Photographs were taken using a digital single lens reflex (DSLR) camera with 25 mega pixel resolution and 500 mm zoom lens. Our method for estimating breeding productivity differed between species. |
