Metadata: 2011 - 2012, Envision Mapping, Blyth NaREC Offshore Demonstration Site, Video Survey
Abstract:
Envision Mapping Ltd., under instruction from Entec UK Ltd., have undertaken a video survey of the area identified for a test offshore wind turbine array near Blyth, Northumberland. Previous grab samples collected some specimens of Sabellaria spinulosa in the area and video samples were requested in order to verify if Sabellaria was in reef form within the area. The equipment was mobilised on the morning of the 17th February 2011, and the survey was completed on the same day.

| Lineage | Lineage includes the background information, history of the sources of data, data quality statements and methods. The drop down video survey was carried out to give an indication of any existing Sabellaria in the areas where hard ground made grab sampling impossible, and at sites where Sabellaria was suspected to be. In order to confirm this, a drop-down video survey of eight sites with one sample at each was to be carried out, at the met mast site, within the cable and array area, and in the ‘outside’ area. The survey was carried out from the South Harbour at Blyth, Northumberland. The equipment was mobilised on the morning of the 17th February 2011, and the survey was completed on the same day. Eight video stations were to be sampled. However, the station at the site of the proposed met mast, and an extra site adjacent to it, were not safe to sample with the camera sledge due to the presence of fishing nets which had been set at that location. A smaller bullet camera was deployed at the site just adjacent to the net mast position, but as it was deep it was not possible to obtain any quality footage. |
