Metadata: 2012, PLA Hydrographic Service, Gunfleet Sands 1 and 2, Export Cable And Substation Inspection Surveys (Spring 2012)
Abstract:
The Port of London Authority (PLA) Hydrographic Service was commissioned by DONG Energy to undertake repeat Multibeam Echosounder (MBES) and Side Scan Sonar (SSS) surveys at the Gunfleet Sands Offshore Windfarm in the Thames Estuary. Previous surveys have been conducted at 6 monthly intervals from September 2010. The surveys are required for the FEPA Licence Numbers: Gunfleet Sands I & II (GF1L/2011/0064/9 & GF2 L/2011/00065/3) Offshore Windfarm. The scope of work, for the March 2012 survey, was as undertaken in 2010 which included: 1. MBES and SSS survey of 100m wide corridor along Export Cable Route between the windfarm substation and landfall site, to the east of Clacton-on-Sea. 2. For 2011, a requirement for additional works and analysis identified by DONG Energy, namely: - difference surface along export line, and comments on wider area geomorphology and bathymetric changes. 3. For August 2011 the scour around the substation was assessed and compared against previous surveys. 4. For March 2012 there was a requirement to delineate the full extent of scour from the substation. This series covers survey elements which were undertaken on the 23rd and 24th March 2012 along the Export Cable Route and around the substation. The survey work was carried out using the PLA survey vessel ‘Yantlet’, with bathymetric data being collected using a hull-mounted Reson SeaBat 8125h MBES and SSS extracted from the bathymetric data in the form of snippets and backscatter.

| Lineage | Lineage includes the background information, history of the sources of data, data quality statements and methods. | This survey represents DONG Deliverable 717a. PLA’s MCA certified dedicated survey vessel, Yantlet, was used throughout the duration of the project for MBES work (Figure 2). The equipment on the PLA’s vessel is permanently fitted and regular calibrations of equipment are undertaken, including daily field checks. The PLA is ISO 9002 and 14001 certified and all QC documentation are held and available for review. Bathymetric sounding data is generated to IHO S44 Special Order level. |
