Metadata: 2009-2011, HiDef Aerial Surveying Ltd., Zone 7 Navitus Bay West Isle of Wight, Aerial Video Bird Survey
Abstract:
Aerial video surveys of the Site were flown from November 2009 to February 2010 as part of The Crown Estate’s Enabling Actions, and further surveys were flown from January to March 2011. Both sets of surveys were undertaken by HiDef Aerial Survey Limited. These surveys were conducted using High Definition (HD) video recording along parallel continuous strip transects, with each transect spaced 2.8 km apart in Zone 7 and 1.4 km apart in the Site. Four cameras attached to the underside of the aircraft recorded images along each transect. In Zone 7, each camera covered a strip of 50m wide (equating to 200 m) and in the Site and buffer three cameras covered a 50m strip, whilst one camera covered a 25 m strip, amounting to a strip width of 175m. The total area covered by the aerial surveys is slightly larger than that covered by the boat-based surveys due to the extension of the Site to the south, equating to 944 km2 and including Zone 7, the Site and the 4km buffer.
