Metadata: 2011, Fugro, Zone 3 Dogger Bank Tranche A, Geotechnical Campaign
Abstract:
At the request of Forewind Limited, Fugro Geotechnics AS acted as a main contractor for a geotechnical site investigation performed within Tranche A of the Dogger Bank Wind Farm site. Fugro GeoConsulting Limited was subcontracted to perform offshore geotechnical site supervision, laboratory testing and geotechnical report. The field work was performed from the geotechnical drilling vessel M/V Bucentaur from 28 June 2011 to 20 July 2011, in accordance with instructions received from Forewind Limited. The objective of the site investigation was to investigate the seismic anomalies observed from the ultra high resolution geophysical data collected from the site. The water depth was approximately 21.8 m to 35.4 m corrected to Lowest Astronomical Tide. A total of 33 boreholes were performed at the proposed site, including pilot boreholes at specified locations tocheck for the presence of shallow gas in the soil and geotechnical boreholes incorporating downhole sampling and in-situ testing.. This project includes the Field Report, the Lab and In-Situ Report and an ESRI ArcGIS shapefile of the locations. This metadata refers to the shapefile.

| Lineage | Lineage includes the background information, history of the sources of data, data quality statements and methods. | Once the vessel was on position, a conductivity, temperature and depth (CTD) profile of the water column was undertaken before drilling, sampling and testing operations could commence. Drilling was performed through a central moonpool using a top drive power swivel. The equipment includes a fixed derrick rig, mud mixing and pumping unit, as well as other tools and accessories required to carry out the investigation. A heave motion compensator was fitted to the power swivel to ensure the drill bit maintained a uniform pressure during drilling operations. An ample supply of drilling mud was provided and a spare string of drillpipe, sufficient spare parts and other supplies were available onboard to ensure no delays during the investigation. Downhole in-situ cone penetration tests (CPTs) were performed during the investigation using Fugro’s WISON tool, lowered down the drillstring and into the borehole by its electro-hydraulic umbilical. The reaction force for the tests is provided by Fugro’s SEACLAM seabed reaction system. The cone penetrometer directly measures cone resistance, cone sleeve friction and pore-water pressure. After the samples were extruded, basic index tests were performed, including moisture content, bulk and dry density determination and shear strength measurements using the torvane and the pocket penetrometer. BAT probe test and headspace vial samples were analysed by NGI using a gas chromatograph the results of which will be reported separately by FGTAS. The shapefile being refered to by this metadata was created using ESRI ArcGIS 10. |
