Metadata: 2011-2012, Gardline Environmental, Zone 3 Dogger Bank Tranche A Nearshore Cable Corridor, Benthic Survey
Abstract:
Benthic Survey of the Nearshore Cable Corridor relating to the Dogger Bank Creyke Beck, offshore wind farms. Survey completed by Gardline Environmental on behalf of Forewind Ltd, 17-Nov-2011 to 17-Jan-2012. One of the objectives of the survey was to investigate pre-selected sites for the presence or absence of Annex I habitats protected under the European Habitats Directive using appropriate guidance notes and high resolution under water video and stills photography (Fresh Water Lens System). Footage was viewed in real time via an umbilical, assisting in the control of the digital stills camera. This allowed for shot selection, in the event that the system recorded a sediment change or feature at the seafloor. Video footage was recorded directly onto VHS video and DVD, and labelled with the relevant job details, write-protected and stored.

| Lineage | Lineage includes the background information, history of the sources of data, data quality statements and methods. | This data was collected during the Forewind Ltd, DOGGER BANK TRANCHE A NEARSHORE CORRIDOR BENTHIC SURVEY by Gardline Geosurvey Ltd. The object of the survey was to investigate pre-selected sites for the presence or absence of Annex I habitats protected under the European Habitats Directive using appropriate guidance notes and high resolution under water video and stills photography (Fresh Water Lens System), to delineate the extent of any Annex I habitat found, also ground truthing of selected sites using a sediment sampler for the determination of Herring Spawning Ground (HSG) potential based on guidelines provided by Cefas (2001). Survey also undertakes characterisation of seabed sediments and Archaeological assessment. In order to accomplish above objectives Fresh Water Lens Camera System was used to record videos of seabed features. At the end of the survey all of therecords were delivered to Gardline’s Great Yarmouth office for sorting, checking and either storage or re-delivery to their respective analytical subcontractors. Equipment Details: Manufacturer - Konsberg/Simrad. Model - OE14-208 Pixels - 5.0 M Standard Lens - f 7.2 – 28.8 (35mm format equivalent to 38 – 140mm) Focus Control - Automatic or manual 50mm to infinity Trigger - Remote from deck Height Control - USBL Beacon and Video footage Video Overlay - Oceantools VO1 Field of View - 47.8 (deg H) by 36.2 (deg V) Lighting - 1 strobe, 2 video lamp Result: Seabed Imagery and videos: 33 Stations were successfully investigated. However, investigations at Station NS34 failed on two occasions due to bad visibility resulting in poor quality seabed imagery. |
