Metadata: 2004, HR Wallingford, Inner Dowsing, Metocean Study
Abstract:
This series contains two reports. The Wind and Wave Data Report describes work commissioned in 1997 by Renewable Energy Systems Limited (RES). RES was assessing the feasibility of offshore windfarms and required wind and wave data at three potential sites situated around the coast of the UK. HR Wallingford supplied the data, having first detailed the various sources available at the different sites and assisted in the decision of the most appropriate source. The UK Meteorological Office (UKMO) wave model archive, that also includes wind data from the LAM numerical weather prediction model, was chosen as the most appropriate source of data. The data were presented in various different forms, and assessment of the accuracy given. A method of converting the wind data to be representative of conditions at 60m elevation, which was considered the likely elevation of the turbines, is also described.

| Internal code | Internally assigned metadata identifier | 39810 |
| Title | The title is used to provide a brief and precise description of the dataset such as 'Date', 'Originating organisation/programme', 'Location' and 'Type of survey'. All acronyms and abbreviations should be reproduced in full. | 2004, HR Wallingford, Inner Dowsing, Metocean Study |
| Alternative title | The purpose of alternative title is to record any additional names by which the dataset may be known. | Metocean Study |
| File Identifier | The File Identifier is a code, preferably a GUID, that is globally unique and remains with the same metadata record even if the record is edited or transferred between portals or tools. | dd8b20f6-1408-45ce-bff9-811c152dc34b |
| Resource Identifier | This is the code assigned by the data owner. | TCE-724 |
| Resource type | The resource type will likely be a dataset but could also be a series (collection of datasets with a common specification) or a service. | series |
| Start date | This describes the date the resource starts. This may only be the year if month and day are not known | 2004-03-04 |
| End date | This describes the date the resource ends. This may only be the year if month and day are not known | 2004-06-13 |
| Frequency of updates | This describes the frequency with which the resource is modified or updated i.e. a monitoring programme that samples once per year has a frequency that is described as 'annually'. | notPlanned |

| Lineage | Lineage includes the background information, history of the sources of data, data quality statements and methods. | The original report has been represented for Offshore Wind Power Ltd (OWP) and includes only the data relating to one of the sites, Inner Dowsing, where OWP intend to develop an offshore windfarm. The data supplied have not been updated to include the period from 1998 to 2004, and it should be noted that the data supplied should not be relied upon for engineering design purposes. The Wave Data Report details wave measurements at the proposed Inner Dowsing Offshore Wind Farm were undertaken in the period 4th March to 13th June 2004. The seabed mounted directional wave sensor was located off the Lincolnshire coast, 3.9 sea miles ENE of Ingoldmells Point. The deployment duration was driven by the need to collect enough data to perform long term wave modelling work. The deployment concluded, with OWPL approval, when HR Wallingford advised that sufficient data had been obtained for a calibration of the wave model. Additionally, the expectation of strong winds was less due to the arrival of the summer period. The report was written, and the field measurements undertaken, by Mr S J Hearn, Principal Surveyor in the Environmental Measurements and Assessments Group at HR Wallingford Ltd. |
