Metadata: 2011, MALSF, Natural Variability of Turbidity in the Regional Environmental Assessment (REA) Areas
Abstract:
"This dataset was produced to quantify natural variability in Suspended Particulate Matter Concentrations (SPMC) in the Humber, East Coast, Thames, English Channel and South Coast Aggregate Regional Environmental Assessment Areas. The \'turbidity\' band of MODIS satellite data was used to produce climatologies of the inorganic (mineral) SPMC on a monthly basis. The dataset comprises statistical layers (raster) for the maximum (max), mean (mu) and standard deviation (sigma) statistics for each climatological month. The average number of data points for each cell is also included (n). The statistics are based on daily composite images from the period 1/7/2002 to 31/5/2010. "

| Title | The title is used to provide a brief and precise description of the dataset such as 'Date', 'Originating organisation/programme', 'Location' and 'Type of survey'. All acronyms and abbreviations should be reproduced in full. | 2011, MALSF, Natural Variability of Turbidity in the Regional Environmental Assessment (REA) Areas |
| Alternative title | The purpose of alternative title is to record any additional names by which the dataset may be known. | SPMC monthly climatologies |
| File Identifier | The File Identifier is a code, preferably a GUID, that is globally unique and remains with the same metadata record even if the record is edited or transferred between portals or tools. | ebac198a3b255367a64ff00ca432a890 |
| Resource Identifier | This is the code assigned by the data owner. | 21824 |
| Resource type | The resource type will likely be a dataset but could also be a series (collection of datasets with a common specification) or a service. | series |
| Start date | This describes the date the resource starts. This may only be the year if month and day are not known | 2026-04-19 |
| End date | This describes the date the resource ends. This may only be the year if month and day are not known | 2026-04-19 |
| Spatial resolution | This describes the spatial resolution of the dataset or the spatial limitations of the service. | inapplicable |
| Frequency of updates | This describes the frequency with which the resource is modified or updated i.e. a monitoring programme that samples once per year has a frequency that is described as 'annually'. | notPlanned |

| Lineage | Lineage includes the background information, history of the sources of data, data quality statements and methods. | The aims of this project are to document, assess and determine the significance and sensitivity of natural variability on marine ecosystems in four Regional Environmental Assessment (REA) regions (Humber, East Coast, Thames and South Coast) using biotic and abiotic parameters in combination, so that impacts from aggregate extraction and other human activities can be put into perspective. To do this we have: • Determined the natural variability and ecological significance of turbidity. • Determined the natural regional variability and significance of seabed disturbance due to waves and currents. • Determined the natural regional variability and significance of seabed fauna and seabed composition by comparison between regional undisturbed and impacted sites. • Used available data to undertake an integrated assessment of natural variability, significance and sensitivity for habitat management purposes. • Reviewed and assessed present |
