Metadata: 2010, EGS, Blyth Demonstration Site, Geophysical Survey
Abstract:
EGS (International) Ltd was contracted to undertake a geophysical survey of an offshore wind farm demonstration site off the coast of Blyth, Northumberland. The marine survey was designed to determine the seabed morphology, shallow geology and any potential geo-hazards/constraints to the development of the demonstration site. During survey operations an area of approximately 46km2 was covered by multi-beam echo-sounder and side-scan sonar systems, and over 350 line km were surveyed with seismic profiling systems (boomer and sparker) as well as a marine magnetometer. Survey operations were completed on the FPV Morven over a total of 15 days from the 15th August 2010 to the 29th August 2010.

| Title | The title is used to provide a brief and precise description of the dataset such as 'Date', 'Originating organisation/programme', 'Location' and 'Type of survey'. All acronyms and abbreviations should be reproduced in full. | 2010, EGS, Blyth Demonstration Site, Geophysical Survey |
| Alternative title | The purpose of alternative title is to record any additional names by which the dataset may be known. | Geophysical Survey |
| File Identifier | The File Identifier is a code, preferably a GUID, that is globally unique and remains with the same metadata record even if the record is edited or transferred between portals or tools. | effe0064-8ec9-4b6f-a7f8-6f70afe8e4f2 |
| Resource Identifier | This is the code assigned by the data owner. | TCE-78 |
| Resource type | The resource type will likely be a dataset but could also be a series (collection of datasets with a common specification) or a service. | series |
| Start date | This describes the date the resource starts. This may only be the year if month and day are not known | 2010-08-15 |
| End date | This describes the date the resource ends. This may only be the year if month and day are not known | 2010-08-29 |
| Frequency of updates | This describes the frequency with which the resource is modified or updated i.e. a monitoring programme that samples once per year has a frequency that is described as 'annually'. | notPlanned |

The marine survey was designed to determine the seabed morphology, shallow geology and any potential geohazards/constraints to the development of the demonstration site. Following completion of the marine survey EGS was contracted to undertake an AGDS based classification of multi-beam echo-sounder (MBES) backscatter amplitude data. In total a MBES dataset covering area of approximately 46km^2 was processed and classified using Quester Tangent Corporation's (QTC) SWATHVIEW, a combined MBES and side-scan sonar (SSS) automatic seabed classification software package. Data was processed by QTC Marine at their head office in Saanichton, BC, Canada. This report details the procedure of QTC SWATHVIEW automatic classification and presents a comparison of the classification results and interpreted data from the marine geophysical survey |
