Metadata: 2011, Cefas, Modelling possible Food-Web Effects of Aggregate Dredging in the Eastern English Channel
Abstract:
A spatio-temporal model of the Eastern English Channel describing the flows of energy in the marine food web is used to investigate the possible effects that changes in species abundance and distribution might have on food webs. Building on the data and knowledge from previous and new investigations, the modelling work enables a broader contextual understanding of the impacts of dredging on food web structure and functions such as productivity, mortality, trophic transfer, and trophic position. The objectives are to analyse food web data in the Eastern English Channel, to develop a dynamic spatio-temporal model, and use it to explore possible scenarios of dredging and ecosystem change.
