Metadata: 2015, Spectrum Geosurvey, Race Bank, Environmental and Engineering Survey
Abstract:
Spectrum Geosurvey Limited was contracted to survey the northern half of the consented Race Bank offshore wind farm development site during spring 2015, prior to the project moving to the construction phase. The purpose of the survey was primarily to identify surface seabed features, objects and biogenic reefs that might affect the offshore installation works. Multibeam bathymetry and sidescan sonar data were acquired on board the Foryd Bay between 5th March and 12th May 2015. All reporting for this survey is contained entirely within this document. The detailed mobilisation and operational information relating to the survey fieldwork are included as appendices.

| Lineage | Lineage includes the background information, history of the sources of data, data quality statements and methods. | During survey operations position quality indicators were monitored and recorded to ensure consistently accurate results. Primary navigation was provided by the Applanix POS-MV decoded RTK corrections and this system performed to a high standard throughout. Height standard deviation and GPS position mode alarms alerted the operator if the position quality deteriorated below acceptable levels. Only a fixed RTK solution was deemed acceptable for the duration of the survey work, which resulted in a typical vertical standard deviation of between 0.02 and 0.05 metres depending on vessel dynamics and satellite availability. The multibeam echosounder tuning was continually adjusted to ensure an optimum balance of coverage, feature detection, sounding density and noise reduction. An online grid of raw bathymetry and sounding density was monitored to ensure that the project requirements were being met. The sidescan sonar was set to 60 metres range throughout and was towed at 10-15% of the range, taking into account seabed variability, to ensure good coverage and object detection. QC logs were generated detailing MBES and SSS towfish dynamics, orientation, settings and environmental conditions to assist the selection of infill and re-run survey lines after the main survey lines were completed. |
