Metadata: Rockall Consortium (RCK) Sampling Survey 1994/1_RCK:Rockall
Abstract:
This marine sampling survey comprised four 2-week legs and formed part of the Rockall Continental Margin Project. It was undertaken from April to June 1994 in the Hatton-Rockall area of the north Atlantic on board the MV Kommandor Therese. The purpose was: 1) to obtain short sea-bed cores for geological calibration of high-resolution seismic profiles obtained in 1992 as part of the same project. 2) to obtain short sea-bed gravity cores, targeted at specific structures, and subsequently geochemically analyse subsamples from these for traces of hydrocarbons. Sea-bed samples and cores were collected using Gravity corer, Vibrocorer and Rockdrill. These data are archived by BGS. Technical details of the survey are contained in BGS Technical Report WB/94/20C. Geological and geochemical results are contained in report WB/95/11C. Extra geochemical results are contained in WI/95/14C.

| Internal code | Internally assigned metadata identifier | 6810 |
| Title | The title is used to provide a brief and precise description of the dataset such as 'Date', 'Originating organisation/programme', 'Location' and 'Type of survey'. All acronyms and abbreviations should be reproduced in full. | Rockall Consortium (RCK) Sampling Survey 1994/1_RCK:Rockall |
| Alternative title | The purpose of alternative title is to record any additional names by which the dataset may be known. | 94-KT-01 |
| File Identifier | The File Identifier is a code, preferably a GUID, that is globally unique and remains with the same metadata record even if the record is edited or transferred between portals or tools. | abc9f747-5377-0f38-e044-0003ba9b0d98 |
| Resource Identifier | This is the code assigned by the data owner. | BGS_CMD_REF267 |
| Resource type | The resource type will likely be a dataset but could also be a series (collection of datasets with a common specification) or a service. | dataset |
| Start date | This describes the date the resource starts. This may only be the year if month and day are not known | 1994-04-07 |
| End date | This describes the date the resource ends. This may only be the year if month and day are not known | 1994-06-06 |

| Lineage | Lineage includes the background information, history of the sources of data, data quality statements and methods. | Sample equipment types used included: Corer: Sediment Gravity, Corer: Vibrocorer and Drill. Not entered was contracted to undertake the survey on behalf of Rockall Consortium. For more detailed information on the acquisition equipment and data collection techniques, operational standards, data processing methods and quality control procedures used on this survey see the Report of Survey/Cruise Report and associated documentation where available. The information available may vary depending on the age of the survey. Data are checked and loaded to the BGS Coastal and Marine data management system following BGS marine data management procedures. |
