<dc:description xmlns:dc="http://purl.org/dc/elements/1.1/">The RAPIDMOC dataset comprises of all data collected under the RAPID: monitoring the Atlantic Meridional Overturning Circulation at 26.5 degrees N since 2004 (RAPIDMOC) project. This includes moored temperature, conductivity and salinity, current velocity, and bottom pressure time series; conductivity-temperature-depth (CTD) profiles with additional oxygen, transmittance and chlorophyll data; discrete samples from CTD niskin bottles analysed for salinity and oxygen; meteorogical, surface hydrographic, navigational and bathymetric data collected by the onboard ship systems and discrete samples; and shipboard Acoustic Doppler Current Profiler (ADCP) data. Data have been predominately collected in the North Atlantic between latitudes of 23.7 degrees N and 28 degrees N in three sub-arrays at the Western Boundary (76.9 degrees W to 69.4 degrees W), Mid-Atlantic Ridge (52.1 degrees W to 40.9 degrees W) and Eastern Boundary (24.2 degrees W to 12.2 degrees W). Data recorded en route to the three sub-arrays, which includes ship-board data systems, some CTD profiles and discrete sample collections are also included in the dataset. A number of instrumented moorings, some of which are full depth, have been deployed in each sub-array. Data have been collected since February 2004. Data have been collected using a variety of instrumentation including conductivity-temperature-depth (CTD) sensors, current meters, Bottom Pressure Recorders (BPR), Acoustic Doppler current profilers (ADCPs), oxygen sensors, transmissometers, fluorometers, echo-sounders, thermosalinographs, anemometers, pyranometers, GPS systems, radiometers, barometers and humidity sensors. Data are collected to calculate and continuously monitor the Meridional Overturning Circulation (MOC) and provide a long-term time series of the strength of the MOC. The RAPIDMOC dataset is collected by the National Oceanography Centre. Data are held at the British Oceanographic Data Centre.</dc:description>
