<dc:description xmlns:dc="http://purl.org/dc/elements/1.1/">Coastal soft cliffs have been highlighted as a priority habitat under the UK Biodiversity Action Plan as a component of the Maritime Cliff and Slope. A total of 6 Grade 1, 7 Grade 2, and 47 Grade 3 species of invertebrates that are restricted to coastal soft cliffs have been identified for Wales.

A 3 year survey, jointly funded by Countryside Council for Wales, National Museums of Liverpool and with logistical support from the National Trust was undertaken between 2002 and 2004 to provide more detailed information on invertebrate fauna of coastal soft cliffs at selected sites throughout Wales.

The purpose of this data capture was to identify current threats and management requirements for soft cliff habitats, and to attempt to rank soft cliff sites on the basis of their cliff fauna across selected sites in Wales.</dc:description>
