  <dc:description xmlns:dc="http://purl.org/dc/elements/1.1/">Sponges are an important feature of Skomer Marine Conservation Zone. A four yearly full species monitoring programme has been in place since 2003, but records exist from 1991. Six sites on the south side of Skomer Island are visited during each survey as part of the continuing full sponge species monitoring programme. 

In 2019 a total of 72 species/entities were recorded, 14 of which are undescribed or need to be fully researched.</dc:description>
