<dc:description xmlns:dc="http://purl.org/dc/elements/1.1/">As part of JNCC's statutory responsibility to recommend Special Areas of Conservation in the offshore marine area to UK Government, the Marine Protected Sites team needs to gather information to help support these recommendations through collaborative or commissioned survey. On such surveys a variety of data may be recorded using a range of instrumentation. These range from using multibeam echosounders and sidescan sonar to record the bathymetry, seabed texture and morphology through to using high resolution digital video and stills equipment to image the seafloor.

The data included in this file details hydrographic survey extents for contracts which were commissioned by JNCC and commissioned under the Mapping European Seabed Habitats (MESH) project. For surveyed areas, polygon areas represent actual extents of survey data gathered, for planned surveys the general extent of the area is shown</dc:description>
