<dc:description xmlns:dc="http://purl.org/dc/elements/1.1/">All these records relate to "Smith (1995) - Lyme Bay Environmental Study Volume 8. Intertidal benthic ecology: Sand and mud shores" A copy of the report is held at Dorset Environmental Records Centre.
This report forms part of the 'Lyme Bay Environmental Study' series. This volume reports on the macroinvertebrates of 8 selected estuaries and harbours in Lyme Bay (N.B. The 3 sites in Devon have not been entered on the Dorset database). Sampling was based upon that adopted by the National Rivers Authority. Four replicates were taken at each site. For each replicate, three closely spaced cores were taken to give a combined surface area of 0.01 square metre. The internal diameter of the corer was 6.5cm. Each core sample was taken to a depth of 15cm where possible. Samples were taken in the lower half of the shore (mean tidal level to mean low water neap zone). The survey was carried out from 8-10 August 1994, during a period of spring tides. Invertebrate core samples were sieved through a 0.5mm mesh. Specimens were identified to species level, where possible, and a reference collection created. Species numbers represent the total number counted in all the replicates.</dc:description>
