  <dc:description xmlns:dc="http://purl.org/dc/elements/1.1/">Ostrea edulis presence records in the Solent from investigation of live weight, dry meat and fecundity of European flat oyster spawning stock during breeding season. This study was carried out by Utting, Helm and Milican to compare the fecundity of flat oysters in the Solent to values found in the early 1960s for south, east and west coast oyster stocks in England and Wales. The live weight, dry meat weight and fecundity of Ostrea edulis spawning stock dredged from the Solent were assessed during the 1985-87 breeding season. This survey was collated by MarLIN as part of a data collation contract for species on the provisional list of nationally important marine features.</dc:description>
