<dc:description xmlns:dc="http://purl.org/dc/elements/1.1/">Survey run by Ambios Environmental Consultants Ltd. for Kerr-McGee Oil (UK) plc. All these records relate to "Dyrynda, Cleator (1995) - Lyme Bay Environmental Study Volume 5. The Fleet Lagoon" A copy of the report is held at Dorset Environmental Records Centre.
This report forms part of the 'Lyme Bay Environmental Study' series. This volume focuses on seven sites in the Fleet: two within the tide exposed lagoonal link channel, and a further five within the sheltered lagoonal basin. Dive transects were used at six of these sites to characterise habitats and epibenthic communities, the remain site was sampled as a spot sample. A sinking transect line marked at 2m intervals was deployed cross-channel, from the low tide level of the seaward (Chesil) shore towards land. A maximum length of 260m was used for each transect, which enabled the lagoon width to be spanned at all sites except for Littlesea. A pair of divers swam along the transect line, recording at each 2m interval the water depth and, within a 0.5m radius, the substratum and conspicuous biota. For the lagoonal basin transects, the percentage cover of seagrasses and green algal mats were visually estimated. Species lists for most sites have been compiled from text descriptions as the 'station by species matrix' referred to in the report as 'Table 6' is missing from the report.
NB Grid references relate to the location on the Chesil shore corresponding with the start point of the dive transect.</dc:description>
