<dc:description xmlns:dc="http://purl.org/dc/elements/1.1/">The Water Framework Directive (WFD) provides a framework for the protection and restoration of inland surface waters, transitional waters, coastal waters, and groundwaters.
Under The Water Environment (Water Framework Directive) (Northern Ireland) Regulations 2017, a key objective is that DAERA must assess ecological status in all waters. According to the WFD ecological status should be assessed based on several biological and hydro morphological elements as well as chemical and physico-chemical elements supporting the biological elements. The assessment of these quality elements for 2021 are available online.</dc:description>
