1986 Marine Conservation Society (MCS) River Dart survey dataset https://portal.medin.org.uk/portal/start.php?tpc=010_d38b7f904575973772fc5cd7379ef3dc 20 locations in and around the River Dart in South Devon. Recognition both of the importance of this habitat type in the south and south-west of Britain and its vulnerability to increasing development pressures, NCC initiated in 1985 a synoptic survey of harbours, rias and estuaries in this geographic area. This will both allow a detailed comparative assessment of the marine nature conservation importance of these systems and provide a basis for advising on potentially deleterious developments within them. A full systematic littoral and sublittoral survey of the River Dart Estuary is planned for 1987. The present preliminary survey was carried out by the Marine Conservation Society, partly-supported and assisted by the NCC, to provide information to assess some of the potential impacts of the deep-water port currently proposed for the estuary.
