<dc:description xmlns:dc="http://purl.org/dc/elements/1.1/">20 locations in and around the River Dart in South Devon. Recognition both of the importance of this habitat type in the south and south-west of Britain and its vulnerability to increasing development pressures, NCC initiated in 1985 a synoptic survey of harbours, rias and estuaries in this geographic area. This will both allow a detailed comparative assessment of the marine nature conservation importance of these systems and provide a basis for advising on potentially deleterious developments within them. A full systematic littoral and sublittoral survey of the River Dart Estuary is planned for 1987. The present preliminary survey was carried out by the Marine Conservation Society, partly-supported and assisted by the NCC, to provide information to assess some of the potential impacts of the deep-water port currently proposed for the estuary. Data on species and biotope recorded and entered onto Marine Recorder. Species data and biotope data mapped as points using MapInfo.</dc:description>
