<dc:description xmlns:dc="http://purl.org/dc/elements/1.1/">The Historic Seascapes Implementing the Method Project is the second stage of the application of a national characterisation methodology to the English coastal and marine zones. The Newport to Clacton project is one of four similar projects undertaken concurrently focusing on different regions of England. The project was commissioned by English Heritage and funded by the ALSF and is part of a much wider programme of applying the principles of HLC to the coastal and marine landscape or seascape. The aim of the project is to apply the national methodology to differing areas, producing an accessible GIS structure and character texts for the region and promoting the relevance of HSC to future applications. This study characterised the study area from Newport in Norfolk to Jaywick in Essex and involved data collation, data preparation, GIS development, database development, character assessment and development of character-type text description.</dc:description>
