<dc:description xmlns:dc="http://purl.org/dc/elements/1.1/">Brown crab shell hardness data was collected by researchers onboard commercial crustacean potting vessels within the Devon and Severn IFCA district. Core measurements taken include: string number, number of pots per string, the abundance and size of each crab caught in the string, the sex of each animal, durometer scores, fisher classification of hardness, moult stage assessment, GPS location of string and whether the animal was landed or discarded, pot type information (inkwell or parlour), soak time, condition index and damage. Trips were sporadic and dependent on weather and fisher availability. Trips occurred over May - August 2024. This work package was to trial and develop a credible methodology for assessing the softness of a brown crab shell using durometer measurements.</dc:description>
