<dc:description xmlns:dc="http://purl.org/dc/elements/1.1/">The Moray Firth Round 3 Zone is proposed for development by Moray Offshore Renewables Ltd (MORL). The zone covers an area of approximately 524.5km2 and is located, at its closest point, 22.1 km east of the Caithness coastline in the outer Moray Firth on the north east coast of Scotland. The zone is located on the crest and south western flank of the Smith Bank, a morphological high point in the area, in water depths between 28 to 56m Chart Datum (CD). Above CD, the site can experience a (maximum tidal range of approximately 4 m. The zone is divided into two development areas, namely the eastern and western development areas (EDA and WDA, respectively). The EDA is currently proposed for offshore wind development.

Tidal currents in the region are generally relatively weak and are aligned approximately to the adjacent coastline and deep water channels. Stronger currents may occur regionally during storm surges, or locally under the influence of surface wind driven currents or wave action. The outer Moray Firth is exposed to (occasionally large) waves developed over long fetches from northerly through south-easterly sectors. Waves originating from other sectors within the firth tend to be relatively smaller due to the limited fetch for wave development.</dc:description>
