<dc:description xmlns:dc="http://purl.org/dc/elements/1.1/">The connection of the Centrica Round 2 Offshore Wind Farms to the proposed
substation at Walpole St. Peter presents a number of challenges that require a
specialised and unique approach.
Due to the protected status of the environment in the Wash and its sensitivity to
disturbance, it is critical that the engineering methods proposed for installing the
cables from the sub-tidal, through the inter-tidal and across the mudflats on to land is
given due consideration.
Centrica has committed to deliver sufficient detailed data for the ‘appropriate
assessment’, a key part of the consenting process for this project. It is critical to the
ongoing project development process that this is achieved and that the information
presented at the appropriate assessment is complete. The main objective of this desk top study is to summarise the methodology and tools
likely to be employed for the installation of the export cables. The methodology
described is that which is thought to have the lowest environmental impact and the
highest cable integrity reliability at the time of writing. The benefits of sub marine
cable burial include mechanical protection of the cable and possibly reduced long
term environmental and visual impacts.</dc:description>
