  <dc:description xmlns:dc="http://purl.org/dc/elements/1.1/">Entec was commissioned by NaREc to assess the spatial distributions of chemical components and associated characteristics in sediments at the proposed demonstration test facility. The aim is to identify areas of enhanced concentrations of contaminants, and allow interpretation in terms of location and relative degrees of contamination. This information will then be used to in the ES to assess potential impact on benthic fauna and wider marine environment. The need for this survey arises due to the proximity of the wind farm arrays to an offshore spoil ground and the historical disposal of contaminants (e.g. dredge spoil, waste fly ash, and sewage sludge) in the sea along this stretch of coast. The history of disposal at the site increases the potential for local sediments to act as a sink for contamination. Construction activities associated with cable lying and turbine installation may release sediment into the water column which could be deposited in adjacent, potentially low contaminant areas.</dc:description>
