<dc:description xmlns:dc="http://purl.org/dc/elements/1.1/">Thomson Unicomarine has been commissioned by Northwest Wildlife Trusts to undertake a benthic survey in the West of Walney MCZ. NWWT is interested in assessing the recovery of benthic macrofaunal assemblages since the ban of fishing, which came into effect in 2019.

The survey will be conducted over a period of 6 days including weather days and other down time.

The samples will undergo macrofaunal, sediment particle size distribution, and carbon content analysis in the laboratory after collection.
The aim of the works is to collect macrofaunal, sediment particle size distribution and carbon data from the MCZ for comparison to previous data and for monitoring going forward. A survey report will be produced describing the survey methods, a brief summary of the results and biotopes will be assigned to each of the 15 sites sampled.

These data were collected from a Seabed Survey License. A Seabed Survey Licence enables applicants to undertake a range of small scale, temporary activities offshore, which physically interact with the seabed. As they are smaller individual surveys, not all of the deliverables comply with the MEDIN Guidelines required for other data on the Marine Data Exchange.
