<dc:description xmlns:dc="http://purl.org/dc/elements/1.1/">Enron Wind Overseas Development Ltd instructed Garrad Hassan and Partners Ltd to conduct an independent assessment of the wind climate and expected energy production at the offshore wind farm of Gunfleet Sands near Clacton-on-Sea. Wind data was recorded at Gunfleet Sands Lighthouse for a period of approximately 2 years. Based on this recorded data, historical data recorded at Walton-on-the-Naze Meteorological Station and Harwich Haven authority meteorological mast it was concluded that the long-term mean wind speed is estimated to be 7.5 m/s at a height of 15.5m above. It is considered that the height of the anemometry above the platform of the lighthouse is insufficient for the wind speed measurements made to be clear from the influence of the lighthouse platform. An allowance has been made in the analysis reported here to account for the estimated effect on recorded wind speed. However, it is strongly recommended that another mast is installed on the Gunfleet Sand Lighthouse at a height of at least 15m above the lighthouse structure so a more accurate prediction of the long-term mean wind speed at the lighthouse can be determined.</dc:description>
