<dc:description xmlns:dc="http://purl.org/dc/elements/1.1/">The Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) for the Race Bank Offshore Wind Farm, conducted by Centrica (RBW) Ltd in collaboration with AMEC and Renewable Energy Systems Ltd (RES) between 2005 and 2008, aimed to assess the environmental, navigational, and socio-economic effects of constructing an offshore wind farm of up to 620 MW capacity off the coasts of Norfolk and Lincolnshire.

Methodology included extensive scoping, structured consultations with over 120 organisations and statutory bodies, public exhibitions, specialist technical surveys, and comprehensive literature reviews. The study found that, with appropriate mitigation measures—such as horizontal directional drilling under sensitive habitats and protective actions against local seabed scour—the project will have only minor, localized, and mostly temporary environmental impacts, with negligible effects on birds, marine mammals, commercial fishing, civil aviation, and telecommunications. Construction activities were scheduled to avoid ecologically sensitive periods, and planning consents were obtained with ongoing regulatory engagement. The wind farm is expected to supply electricity to approximately 420,000 homes, significantly reduce CO2 emissions, bring local economic benefits, and support the UK’s renewable energy targets. The assessment recommends continued environmental monitoring, adherence to mitigation strategies, and compliance with decommissioning regulations, concluding no significant adverse impacts subject to these recommendations.</dc:description>
