<dc:description xmlns:dc="http://purl.org/dc/elements/1.1/">This project preceded project Assessment of the Rehabilitation of the Seabed Following Marine Aggregate Dredging. The objective of this project was to provide better understanding of the processes leading to the rehabilitation of the seabed following gravel extraction in order to provide an indication of the likely timescale involved for different areas of the seabed. Also to identify dredging patterns/methods which optimise the potential to return the seabed to its pre-dredging conditions within an acceptable time scale. The key customer purpose was to assist Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs (defra) and the Office of the Deputy Prime Minister (ODPM) to develop management strategies for minimising the environmental impacts of ongoing dredging activity and assessing the recovery of areas of the seabed from marine aggregate extraction.
