<dc:description xmlns:dc="http://purl.org/dc/elements/1.1/">A 30 turbine windfarm is to be constructed on a marine site on the Kentish Flats near
Whitstable. The construction will involve piling monopiles for the pylon bases and
the laying of interconnecting cables between the pylon bases using a plough.
Additionally the export cables will be emplaced from the windfarm to the foreshore
using a plough for a distance of some 7 km.

The site of the windfarm has a history of unexploded ordnance finds resulting from
wartime activity in the area. The last significant incident, the discovery of a WWII
German “G” mine occurred earlier this year. A threat assessment was carried out as
a result of which risk mitigation measures were identified as being necessary to
reduce the risk posed by unexploded ordnance.

Initial magnetometry and side scan sonar survey was conducted over the area but the
quality and detail was not adequate to plan for and execute a risk mitigation
operation to provide the required clearance certification.</dc:description>
