<dc:description xmlns:dc="http://purl.org/dc/elements/1.1/">Subacoustech previously modelled the effects of the propagation of underwater noise during impact piling operations for the Race Bank project using an early version of INSPIRE (Impact Noise Sound Propagation and Impact Range Estimator), a proprietary underwater sound propagation model. Further to Subacoustech’s original assessment and following a revision to the envelope for the monopile foundations, the levels of underwater noise from the installation of monopiles have been re-assessed and estimated using a more sophisticated version of INSPIRE (version 3.3.0). This enables the calculation of noise with range from the piling location based on, and validated against, Subacoustech’s existing database of measurement of piling noise. The INSPIRE model has been used to calculate the expected noise level on 180 transects radiating outwards from the piling location at the Race Bank site and the results interpreted to yield impact range contours.</dc:description>
