2011-2012, APEM Ltd., London Array, Aerial Bird Surveys series https://portal.medin.org.uk/portal/start.php?tpc=015_cc712cc0cc0d4a909c84652c1d0dfc34 This report summarises the findings of the winter 2011 / 12 during construction aerial surveys of the London Array Ltd. Offshore Wind Farm (OWF) site, and associated control Zones, for birds and marine mammals. Construction of the Phase 1 area of the London Array Ltd. OWF commenced in March 2011 and is due to be completed by the end of 2012. The aerial surveys are designed to meet the requirements of the Marine Licence1 granted in respect of the wind farm, and to satisfy the wider Ornithological Review Panel (ORP) process. The ORP was set up prior to award of consent as an expert panel comprising representatives from London Array, Natural England and Royal Society for Protection of Birds (RSPB) to discuss and agree the scope of the ornithological monitoring required under the phased approach in the London Array Marine Licence, and to agree an interaction figure that would not have an adverse effect on integrity of the likely Greater Thames Estuary Special Protection Area (SPA). In order to satisfy Marine Licence conditions, during construction monitoring for Phase 1 development and pre-construction monitoring of Phase 2 is required, necessitating aerial survey of the London Array OWF site and a control Zone.
