The principal target species are lobster (Homarus gammarus) and brown crab (Cancer pagurus), although velvet crab (Necora puber) and whelk (Buccinum undatum) can from time to time provide additional income on a seasonal basis. This survey report provides an assessment of the distribution, density, proportionate gender distribution and size ranges of the above species within the defined limits of the inshore cable route. The characterisation studies of the shellfish assemblage within the inshore cable corridor commenced in August 2011, with PMSL deploying six fleets of pots containing seventeen standard parlour pots and an additional five fine mesh pots. The survey, which for August, was timed to coincide with the peak season for shellfish fishing activity, was repeated in January 2012, which is considered to be a period of low availability A local vessel based at Bridlington (Mirage II) was employed to facilitate the deployment and recovery of the static gear, which with the exception of the fine mesh pots, mirrored static gears commonly used in the fishery. 20130830
