<dc:description xmlns:dc="http://purl.org/dc/elements/1.1/">This series provides a detailed assessment of the ornithological and mammal interests for the proposed MeyGen
Tidal Energy Project (Phase 1), in support of the Environmental Impact Assessment.

This bird assessment is based on data collected during 22 boat surveys of the Phase 1 site plus a buffer area
within the Pentland Firth Inner Sound and 24 months of land based vantage point surveys. These surveys
were collected over a period of 24 months between October 2009 and September 2011.

For the mammal assessment, the report uses a combination of a desk study of literature and available data sources, and an analysis of the baseline data collected during the two years of boat- and shore-based surveys in the Inner Sound to assess marine mammal distribution, abundance, seasonality and behaviour within the Inner Sound and wider Pentland Firth and Orkney Waters. Baskingsharks are included in this report.</dc:description>
