2009, The Food and Environment Research Agency, FERA, Skerries Tidal Site, Seabird Survey series https://portal.medin.org.uk/portal/start.php?tpc=015_efa589c4-b45f-426b-946e-db414848ab28 Fera were commissioned by PMSS to report on the findings of seabird surveys undertaken on behalf of PMSS by Stuart Thomas to inform the proposed installation of an array of marine current turbines (“tidal array”) off The Skerries, Anglesey. The seabird surveys were to evaluate the importance and use made of the sea area by seabirds and seaduck within the potential zone of influence from the proposed development. This potential zone of influence from onsite activities, noise and visual impacts only, was taken to be 500 metres from the location of the tidal stream array. The aims and objectives of the study were to: • Record the seabird species, their abundance, distribution and activity in the study area during April 2009 - September 2009. • Consider the implications of the development proposals in relation to the birds recorded during the period April 2009 – September 2009. The collected data will be presented to illustrate the spatial distributions and densities of species using the survey area. Analysis will consider species populations recorded during the surveys in comparison to species citations for those SPAs likely to be impacted by the development, in order to consider the relative importance of the survey area. The collected data will be used to provide an assessment of the risk that the proposed marine current turbines at the Skerries might pose to birds that currently use the area. 20100912
