<dc:description xmlns:dc="http://purl.org/dc/elements/1.1/">The series aimed to investigate and characterize the electromagnetic fields (EMF) generated by subsea power cables associated with UK offshore windfarms, focusing on potential ecological impacts, especially on electro-sensitive marine species such as elasmobranchs.

Employing a combination of methods, including literature review, computational modeling (with Maxwell 2D software), laboratory experiments, in situ sensor measurements, and field trials, the research assessed EMF characteristics and the effectiveness of mitigation strategies like cable shielding, armour enhancement, proper earthing, and burial at a depth of at least 1 meter.

Key findings demonstrated that while improved cable design and burial reduce external EMF exposure, magnetic fields persist outside cables and both field types remain within ranges detectable by some sensitive marine organisms.</dc:description>
