  <dc:description xmlns:dc="http://purl.org/dc/elements/1.1/">WWT Consulting was commissioned by Centrica to undertake four aerial surveys of waterbirds and seabirds in inshore waters in an area of the Outer Wash approximately bounded to the west by Skegness, to the north by Mablethorpe, to the east by Wells-Next-the-Sea and to the south by the Norfolk coastline.

The aerial surveys were undertaken using a methodology developed in Denmark by the National Environment Research Institute (NERI) (Kahlert et al 2000; see also Camphuysen et al 2004).

Across the surveys, 33 species or groups were identified, with scoters, gulls, and auks being most numerous and showing distinct spatial patterns&#x2014;scoters and divers favouring coastal zones, while gulls and auks were more evenly distributed. Bird numbers peaked mid-winter and declined sharply towards spring, aligning with lower than average seasonal counts and notable tern arrivals.</dc:description>
