<dc:description xmlns:dc="http://purl.org/dc/elements/1.1/">This manned submersible sampling survey undertaken by the British Geological Survey (BGS) took place in June 1970 in the Sea of The Hebrides areas aboard the vessel Vickers Venturer. The purpose was to evaluate the institutes shallow seismic and allow close examination of the representative geomorphological features and sedimentary environments and the transitions which take place between them, sample rock outcrops and evaluate the use of a sumbrsible for this type of work. The manned submersible operated by a pilot and geologist observer was fitted with two stereo cameras, rockdrill and manipulator arm. Twenty dives were undertaken to obtain geological samples. These data are archived by BGS. The geological results and investigation techniques are contained in BGS (IGS) report 71/16.</dc:description>
