The Habitats Directive establishes that the management of Special Areas of Conservation (SACs) should aim to achieve the favourable conservation status of habitat and species features listed within its Annex I and Annex II. For SACs in Wales, the Countryside Council for Wales (CCW) is therefore required to report on a regular basis on whether features are in favourable conservation status. Rockpools, overhangs and caves have been identified as important elements of the 'large shallow inlets and bays' feature and of Sites of Special Scientific Interest. These potentially species rich rocky habitats were surveyed in Carmarthen Bay to provide an inventory and to fully characterise these sub-features. The purpose of this data capture was to provide an inventory and distributi
on map of selected biotopes and species inventory across South Wales.
