Gardline Geosurvey carried out a survey for Forewind Ltd at the proposed Tranche B project area of the Dogger Bank Offshore Wind site. The objective of the survey was to gather accurate bathymetric data, gain information on the thickness and sediment cover of the seabed sediments and shallow geology, produce evidence for the ongoing movement in seabed sediments, and provide information on any hazards or factors of operational significance for wind farm emplacement across the region. The survey made use of single beam and multi-beam echo sounder, sidescan sonar, pinger, sparker and magnetometer equipment.
Survey work was undertaken on all of the Priority Areas, but only 1A and 1B were completed during the 2011 season, due to the prevailing poor weather conditions; work on areas 2A and 2B was postponed until 2012. The geophysical data acquisition
programme was restarted in March 2012 and all Priority Areas were completed in May 2012. The survey covered an area measuring approximately 892km2, with mainlines spaced at 100m and crosslines spaced at 1000m.
