"description": "The Burry Inlet is the large estuary of the River Loughor, which separates the Gower Peninsula from the mainland. The Burry Inlet is a Special Protection Areas (SPA) and Ramsar site and its Atlantic and Mediterranean Saltmeadows have contributed to its designation as a Special Area of Conservation (SAC). The saltmarsh habitats here correspondingly determine the border of important mudflat and sandflats within the SAC. The area of saltmarsh within the Burry Inlet is regarded the most extensive site of such vegetation in Wales. In 1998, a National Vegetation Classification (NVC) survey was carried out by Prosser and Wallace (1999) for the Countryside Council for Wales (CCW), to provide more detailed information on the distribution of key elements of saltmarsh within the estuary. They mapped an area of 1879 ha of saltmarsh vegetation. As part of the ongoing monitoring program for Countryside Council for Wales (CCW), the Institute of Estuarine and Coastal Studies (IECS) were commissioned to carry out further monitoring at key sites in order to provide an understanding of the dynamics of the saltmarsh and mudflat/sandflat habitats. The purpose of the data capture was to map the seaward boundary of saltmarsh at Llanrhidian Marshes between Great Pill and Salthouse Point; map the seaward boundary of saltmarsh between Penrhyn Gwyn and Loughor Bridge and record positions of outlying Spartina anglica tufts at both locations.",
